
Peter Ruben
A leader in the cable television industry for over 25 years, Peter Ruben, was most recently head of Distribution for Ion Media where he managed the cable, satellite and broadcast distribution teams. Prior to ION, Peter was Executive Vice President of Affiliate Relations at HSN. At HSN Peter built the Affiliate Sales team. Peter oversaw the affiliate relations, advanced services, cable and satellite, and broadcast distribution efforts for HSN, a leading interactive retailer that offers a curated assortment of exclusive products and top brand names. In this role, he was instrumental in launching and leading the distribution efforts for HSN Shop by Remote®, the first and only 24-hour interactive TV service in the U.S. Peter has also led the initiatives to launch and distribute HSN in high definition. Additionally, Peter’s team developed and launched HSN2, a second television shopping channel at HSN. He is a leader in the development of HSN on Demand®, which allows consumers to view multiple video product presentations.
Prior to joining HSN, Peter worked for IAC as an EVP in the retail commerce group. Peter was also a SVP at USA Networks, managing the distribution and affiliate marketing efforts for HSN, SyFy Channel, Trio and Newsworld International.
After Barry Diller’s IAC sold USA Networks to Vivendi, Peter was asked to remain at IAC to manage HSN’s distribution team and to advise IAC on starting up other commerce channels. Peter seamlessly jumped into the role to build and grow distribution at HSN while also looking at other opportunities for IAC.
Peter’s team at HSN was awarded a groundbreaking new patent on the technological process that provides updated product information to consumers for HSN2. Under Peter’s guidance, the HSN Advanced Service team has obtained 7 Patents related to interactive shopping using video.
Peter has earned himself a number of notable awards and honors from the broadcast community at large. For example, CableFAX has recognized Peter as one of the Top 100 Executives in Cable. In 2011, he was selected for the CableFAX Sales Hall of Fame and in 2010; the HSN Affiliate Relations team led by Peter received the CableFAX Launch Team of the Year Award for their introduction of HSN HD. He has won several Mark Awards for Excellence from CTAM, the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing.
Peter brings over 25 years of ever increasing experience and responsibility with him. He has had many roles in the cable industry including cable operations as senior marketing executive at Paragon Cable, a joint venture of Time Warner Cable and Houston Industries, followed by heading up National Accounts USA Networks.
Peter has earned an MS in Business Analytics from Syracuse University, an MBA from UCLA, and a BA in economics from Rutgers.
